McGizmo 26mm Titanium Clip

We have previously reviewed the stainless steel clips as a very useful piece of hardware to attach your EDC items to a keyring, lanyard, carabiner and others. A titanium clip was very welcomed as a premium item in the same line of clips.

The Ti clip is 26mm long, just 1mm longer than the SS "Micro" clip. It is built completely in titanium including the gate and the spring. The spring resistance is good enough to avoid accidental release but not hard to make it difficult to operate.

Being made in titanium the clips are very strong and very light, they will not corrode even if used in a marine environment and they are also diamagnetic so won't be attracted to magnets and will not magnetize.

If the size is good for you the quality of these clips is really excellent and will make your keychain perfect.

You can order for $8.50 from Lighthound.

Flat Mini Keytons

The flat mini keytons are very light and small handy tools made of aircraft grade titanium. The keytons are 2 1/4'' long and 0.048'' thick, they weight only 0.2 ozs (6 grams).

The keytons feature three screwdriver tips, they can be used for screws, small prying, scraping and other jobs where you need a strong and flat tool.

Being made of titanium the keytons will never rust and are extremely strong for their size, the anodizing is strong and will not get scratched from contact with keys and other metallic elements. The keytons have a generous lanyard hole that can be used to thread cord, the walls are too big for a splitring so you need to thread cord first if you want to keep it in your keychain.
Being as flat as they are the keytons can also be carried inside a wallet, you will never note their existance.

Available in bronze, blue, pink, purple and gray/green. You can order from Peter Atwood's website for $25.

TAD Gear's Titanium Dog Tags v 3.0

This is a new version of TAD Gear's Titanium Dog Tags. The Tags can be used as both an identification device and as en emergency cutting tool.

The tags have two titanium parts that pivot around a black anodized titanium pivot, one of the edges is sharpened to be used as a cutting tool you just pivot and click to open or close the tags.

There's also one side available to be engraved and be used as a regular tag with the information you want, depending on what you do or what you want to put in the tag.

The construction and quality of this new version is very high, all the parts are very well built and the titanium pivot is a particular good detail, it can be adjusted to the tension you want depending on how easily you want to be able to rotate the tags to open and close, if you wear them around your neck then you should adjust them tight and have the blade as an emergency one. If you hand the tags somewhere else you can leave the pivot not so tight and have a quick mini blade handy when needed.

Being made of titanium the tags are very light and will resist corrosion and wear, the engraved part can get scratched from play against other neck chain since titanium is strong but gets scratched more than steel or even aluminium.

You can read more and order from TAD Gear for $59.

Anderson's Ti Pull

The Ti-Pull is a Titanium Zipper Pull by Knife Maker and artist Tom Anderson. The piece is made from 6AL4V titanium with a heavy duty Stainless Steel Split Ring, it is 1/2'' in diameter.

The design is very nice and useful, the knurled body helps the grip and the titanium makes the pull almost weightless compared to other metal pulls. It can also be used as a fob for a keychain or a lanyard it can even be used as a piece of jewelry on your neck if you want.

The ti-pull can be ordered for $30 from Tom Anderson's website.

Titanium Chain

Chains are very versatile tools for EDC, you can use a chain for carrying gadgets or items on your neck, you can use it to secure your wallet to your belt loop, you can use small chunks of chain to create better belt loops, you can use it as a keychain or to carry items inside your pockets that you can retrieve easily without risk of losing them and many many other uses.

These chains from Titaniumstyle.com are made of pure grade 1 commercial titanium, they are available from sizes 6-09 (1.8 mm) to size 6-14 (6.9 mm). From $69 to $119 respectively. In the middle you have four intermediate sizes. They can be ordered in lengths of 16'', 18'' or 20'' larger sizes can be ordered at an extra cost.

The chains feature a 100% titanium lobster clip and a small titanium ring at the other end where the lobster clip can be clipped to get the chain closed. The clips are quite small so they are probably not good to attach the chain to gadgets or a belt loop, they can be clipped to the chain itself to create a loop if you want.

Countycomm's $3 titanium screw links are probably a good idea to complement the Titanium chain and have some 100% ti attachment points if you plan to use it for something else than neck carry.

You can order this chains following this link.

TAD Gear Ti Rescue Ring

This is a titanium rescue ring from TAD Gear, it has a removable spike that can be used to break glass windows in case of emergencies.

The spike comes with an attachment base that has a hole for a splitring so you can put it in your keychain and use it only when needed, in case of need just unscrew the spike and screw it to the ring.

The Ring is made of titanium and the spike is stainless steel. Optionally you can screw an SS button compass instead of the spike and use the ring for navigation (compass not included).

As a piece of titanium jewelry the ring is really nice and confortable to use and compared to other Ti rings it is very affordable, offering the option of the spike as an emergency device in case of need. The threads to attach the spike to your keyring are not very long so with some time it will eventually get loose and you are in a big risk of losing the spike. Besides this problem it is not very clear how quickly you can get the spike ready in case of need if you are rescuing somebody it may help, if you are the one in need of a quick exit it is probably too slow and too small to be correctly operated during an emergency.

You can get it in sizes 5 to 13 from TAD Gear.

AG Russell Titanium Lockback folder.

This is a top quality keychain knife from AG Russell, the handles are made of titanium and the blade is VG-10 steel.

The knife is only 2.5 inches long with a 1-7/8'' satin finished blade. It weights just 0.5oz.
The locking mechanism is a lockback located in the middle of the handle, it is very solid.

This little knife can be carried in a keychain, a pocket, a coin pocket or inside any pouch, it is really small and thin. When opened the blade is good to do most typical cutting jobs, rope, cardboard, nylon, plastic and other common materials can be handled without damaging the blade. There is no hole for a split ring or attachment the knife comes with a small and nice real-leather pouch that has no holes either!, so the carrying options are inside a pocket or drilling a hole through the leather pouch and inserting a rivet. It fits great inside coin pockets of jeans if that is an option to you.

If you are looking for an excellent and very small titanium knife this is a great option.
It costs $25 and you can read more or order from AG Russell's website.

Titanium Gate Snap

The titanium gate snap from Berkeley Point is a cross bewteen a clip and a carabiner. The gaye snap is large enough to be clipped to a belt loop, a backpack or a pouch, so it can be used as the end attachment point for your keychain.

The hole at the bottom can be used to thread paracord or chain, it can also be used for a large splitring, a smaller one might be hard to install since the width of the titanium borders can be problematic, we all know how painful tight splitrings can be sometimes.

Constructed from Titanium the gate snap will resist wear, corrosion, impacts and daily abuse. I found them practical for keychains and lanyards made with paracord as the end attachment for belt loops but there are a zillion possible usages.

There are two sizes: 1-15/16'' and 2-7/8'' that cost $22 and $36 respectively. You can find more information or order from Berkely Point.

Rick Hinderer's Titanium Kubaton Pen

Rick Hinderer is a very well known artist that makes beautiful knives and other objects. One of his greatest products is the modular kubaton, made of Titanium the kubaton is basically a hollow body where you can attach different end caps.

One of the end caps that can be added is a pen cap, this makes the kubaton an everyday Titanium pen. The pen accesory uses a fisher space pen universal refill (not the ones for bullet pens) and comes with a threaded cap and a threaded end to screw the cap when you are using the pen.

There are two ways to purchase this; one is to buy the body ($40), and then the pen accesory ($175) for a total of $215 or you can buy a deluxe set for $295 that will include a pocket clip, the body, the pen and two optional end caps from your choice inside a pelican 1010 case. This can appear to be expensive but is the price to pay to get a top quality custom made titanium pen that can also be used as a kubaton and that is modular and can be combined with different ends and accesories.

Rick makes this kubatons and pens in different finishes, the one in the picture is the "strider" finish but there are more. To purchase or browse different models you can visit Rick Hinderer's website.

Leatherman Charge Ti

The charge Ti is one of the most complete multi-tools from Leatherman. It is made of stainless steel with Titanium handles and bronze bushings. LM also offers an XTi version that is identical but has a second large bit driver and no scissors so choose the one that is better for your needs. The Leatherman Wave has the same tools but is not made with Titanium, the charge can be seen as a better built and more expensive wave.

Without being fully opened the Charge offers quick access to a 154cm steel point blade, serrated blade, saw and wood/metal file (diamond coated on one side). Opening the tool you get access to the pliers and wire cutters. The pliers end in a narrow way so can be also used as needle nose pliers. Then you have a plain edge screwdriver, scissors, small bit driver, large bit driver, can opener, bottle opener and wire stripper.

The tool includes 8 bits for the large bit driver, a pocket clip and a quick release ring. The pocket clip and quick release ring are mutually exclusive, you have to choose one or the other or none of them but you can't use both. Every single tool in the Charge locks that adds a lot of security to the tools, unlocking is easy and can't be done accidentally. A nylon or leather sheath is include to carry the tool and the bit drivers. The sheath is particularly excellent, you can carry the tool, the bit drivers and there will be some extra space for a small pen or flashligh on the side, it is a very nice sheath and very functional.

The only drawback in my opinion of this fantastic multi-tool is that the scissors are not ready to use without opening the tool and furthermore the way the scissors are deployed is not fast enough for inmediate use. Since scissors are one of the things you may need very frequently I would have preferred a quicker access to them on the plus side they cut great all sort of materials.

As an additional accesory you can buy a bit kit including a set of 21 double ended bits for the large driver and one for the small bit driver.

Being constructed with Titanium Handles the charge is not a heavy tool yet fully packed of excellent tools that can be professionally used. It is certainly the best multi tool that Leatherman offers and a fantastic help for all kind of users.
The retail price is about $100 and you can read more in the Charge Official Website.

Ultimate Smartlink Titanium Release System

This is an interesting product, basically it is similar to a split ring but designed in a way to open when pulled, the ring opens as it is stretched and then goes back to its intial shape.

There are different tension strengths the lightest one is 6lbs. Originally created for quick release of captures when fishing these rings can be used as quick-release split rings for different items such as tools, flashlights etc.

Being made of titanium adds an irresistible touch. You can read more in the product page. You can order them starting at $8 from this site. Smarter than a splitring and made of Titanium.

SanDisk Cruzer Titanium 2Gb pendrive

This a 2Gb flash drive enclosed in a "luquid metal" metallic case, it's supossed to resist forces of up to 200lbs, some guys tried to crush it with an SUV but failed. It has a cool look and feel too.

The cruzer comes with a lanyard, split ring and a metallic pocket clip that I didn't find useful so I removed it. The USB connector is plastic and retractable, when being used a blue led glows and the led blinks when the drive is transferring data.

The cruzer is a U3 compatible drive, this means that you can use it as a regular 2Gb flash drive but you can also use it as a U3 device downloading and installing U3 portable software (freeware) that you can then launch from the U3 launchpad. It comes with the usual sofwtare in trial mode that you don't want but it also comes with the U3 launchpad and download manager that I found very useful download the applications you want and they will be ready to be launched from the U3 launchpad.

I installed portable firefox, open office, thunderbird, a PIM application, a encryption software, a notepad and a PDF reader all installed and ready to use in minutes. Prices for flash drives change a lot, calculate $50~$80 for this one at the time this was posted. You can get more information at the Cruzer official page. A very cool and strong drive. Recommended.

Atwood Prybaby

A prybaby can be found more and more in EDC kits. Small and practical the prybaby is a keychain item that can be used for several different things.

It's primary use as its name indicates is to pry things, constructed in s30v steel the small prybaby can lift a lot of weight before suffering any deformation. I have used to remove a door from its frame and worked without suffering damage.

Besides prying things the tool comes with a bottle opener, and a scredriver tip on the other end. The tip of the tool can be used to remove nails, scrap paint, open boxes etc.

Making it short the number of real uses for your prybaby depends on you, the longer you have it the more you discover how useful it can be. You can get it for $35 directly from Peter Atwood's website.

The Inka Pen

The Inka Pen is a modular keychain pen. It has two flavours: Titanium and Stainless Steel. I will review here the SS version. Right from the box you get a quick use keychain pen, just pull the pen from the metal keychain tube and you can write.

If the pen is too short for you or you need it to write for some time you can proceed to assemble a full-size pen unscrewing some parts and screwing them back in a different order. The same goes for the stylus tip so the Inka is actually a "transformer" pen.

I found the quick use pen very useful, the split ring that comes with it is too big so you may want to replace it to reduce the bulk in your keychain. The full-sized pen or the stylus to me were not very attractive since taking some seconds to "assemble" a pen before using it is not logical for a keychain pen. You want it because you can use it quickly to write something so the assembling process doesn't make a lot of sense.

The SS version costs $24 and the Titanium version about $85 you can get them or read more at the Inka pen website.

TAD Gear's folding Titanium Spork.

A spork is an utensil that combines a spoon and a fork, then the cool name:spork. And titanium is the preferred material of EDC people, light, incredibly strong and corrosion resistant. This folding spork by TAD gear can be folded and has a clip so you can take it with you in your backpack, belt or pocket.

This spork is very very light, almost weightless compared to other utensils. The "fork" part works well it is not sharp but can pinch and be used to eat meat, chicken, fish and vegetables. The spoon works as a normal spoon and can be used from soup to rice or mashed potatoes.

The Spork is great, it will get scrateches in the TI scales from folding and unfolding. When unfolded it may not be as strong as some titanium utensils are, it kind of bends a little under pressure but is still completely useful for general eating purposes, you are not going to use it to pry things, are you?

You can get it at: TAD GEAR for $15.95
